Emerald Ash Borer
Is My Tree an Ash?
An Ash tree can be identified in a few ways. In Colorado, the most common ash trees that are attacked by Emerald Ash Borer are Green Ash and White Ash. Ash trees have opposite branch and leaf structure, which means these attachments come in pairs and are in line with each other on each side of a branch or leaf. Ash trees have 5-9 leaflets on each leaf stem from the bud origin. The bark has a tight diamond pattern as the trees mature. Northeast Tree Care is always happy to help you identify the trees on your property and discuss any needs and precautions to help you manage your landscape.
Emerald Ash Borer
EAB is a very destructive and aggressive pest to Green and White Ash. If there is an Ash tree on your property you should be preparing to either treat it with pesticide every other year for the rest of its life or replace it. The metallic green adult beetle will rarely be seen as the critical damage happens under the bark when the larvae are feeding on the phloem tissue of the tree. When the adults exit the tree they leave behind an 1/8” D-shaped exit hole which is the first indication your tree is getting attacked.
Treatment
Northeast Tree Care proudly utilizes the Arbor-Jet injection system and products. These have been university tested, have lasting residual, and keeps any interventions within the tree itself. The pesticide used is Ememectain Benzoate and Northeast Tree Care has the experience to ensure an application at the highest labeled rate.
Treatment typically lasts for 2 years within the tree. Treatment costs will be dependent on the diameter of the tree trunk.
